Unit 2: Turning Fact Into Fiction
In this part of the unit, students will begin by discovering characteristics in educational fiction through a children's book scavenger hunt. Then students will decide on a topic they are interested in researching, learning about, and then teaching to others through the creation of their own educational fiction children's book. We will be strengthening our explanatory and narrative writing skills as well as reading for information. I will mix in creative thinking, lateral thinking, and problem-solving activities throughout the unit to allow for emotional support and brain breaks, especially for those who struggle with reading and writing.
Turning Fact into Fiction Part II:
In this part of the unit, the focus will shift from reading and writing to mathematical investigation, problem-solving and building, as students help Leonardo Da Vinci discover the appropriate ratios for the human body. Little do they know, their discoveries will help Leonardo solve a MUCH BIGGER problem in their tiny Renaissance village.
